Joy Markee serves as our new Director of Community Relations and Development. Joy grew up in Wheaton, IL and earned her B.A. in English Literature with a minor in History from Miami University, Oxford OH. For her junior year, Joy attended Miami’s Luxembourg campus where she studied international economics and traveled throughout Europe and Russia. In 1995, Joy moved to Arizona and earned her MBA in International Marketing from Thunderbird School of Global Management. While studying at Thunderbird, Joy spent four months on internship in Mexico City.
After graduation, Joy moved to Los Angeles and began a career in new product development and market research. In 2000, Joy and her husband moved to Southwestern Michigan where she taught marketing and international business classes at a local community college. In 2008, Joy and her family moved to Dallas, TX for three years until finally landing in Lake Bluff in 2011. She is excited to be part of the Lake Bluff community and believes that her different experiences will provide a unique perspective in her new role with LEAD.
From Special Olympics coach to Girl Scout cookie mom to Elementary School room parent, Joy has always loved volunteering with children. Joy believes that the strongest asset in a community is its young people. It is this passion that brought her to LEAD and she is excited about expanding and enhancing LEAD’s programming and reach. Her goal is to make LEAD accessible and relevant to as many families in the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff area as possible.
