Monday, May 6 – Dr. Mark Reinecke, PhD, Northwestern University

Teen depression expert Dr. Mark Reinecke will speak be here from Northwestern University to speak to our students about ways to Keep Calm and Carry On – Managing stress, anxiety, tension, worry, pressure, parents and school!

Tuesday, May 7 – Erasing the Distance Troupe

(in the DMT during all lunches)

This theater troupe of professional actors visits high schools throughout Chicagoland, taking real stories from teens suffering mental illness and sculpting their actual words into moving and educational monologues and scenes. This specific performance will highlight the words and true stories of three very different teens facing depression, followed by an interactive dialogue with the audience

Wednesday, May 8– (*Staff Only* event – in DMT during all lunches)

Dr. Karen Swartz, MD, Johns Hopkins University

Director, ADAP (Adolescent Depression Awareness Program)

Dr. Swartz leads the groundbreaking ADAP team from Johns Hopkins, and will be here from Baltimore, MD to speak to our school staff about adolescent depression and suicide. Dr. Swartz brings a message of hope that depression is a common, medical illness – and treatable! Her emphasis is on depression literacy and education – and she will inform us about depression signs and symptoms, as well as treatment and the latest research.

Thursday, May 9 – LFHS Lighthouse Panel                                      (in the DMT during all lunches)

Our own LFHS Lighthouse panel will be presenting stories from real teens about depression, including  first-hand stories, discussion and video. (Ericka’s Lighthouse is an organization founded in response to the suicide of a North Shore student named Ericka).

 Friday, May 10 – Namaste Day (in the Dance Room during all lunches)

Local yoga instructors will lead students and staff through quiet Yoga Nidra, teaching the fundamental concepts and basics of this peaceful practice to decrease stress and anxiety. Come enjoy a Zen break from your busy week!

Also Friday – ”Enjoy The Journey” to College Q&A

LFHS “Enjoy The Journey” is hosting this informative event, where Juniors will hear from LFHS guidance counselors, and Seniors who are headed off to college – there will be tips and tricks for managing the college investigation and application process in the most thoughtful, efficient and stress-free way possible!
